Mauvline “Mauvy” Langford

Mooreville/Wren – Mauvline “Mauvy” Langford, 86, passed away peacefully, in Memphis, TN, with her family by her side, on Tuesday, February 8, 2022. She was born in Dorsey, MS, a daughter of the late Archie Lee Herring and Ada Davis Herring.

A daughter to sharecroppers, Mauvy grew up in a huge family, having 12 other siblings and she learned early the importance of family. For years, they lived in different communities in Mississippi and eventually they settled on a farm in Wren, MS. Mauvy graduated from Wren High School with the class of 1954. She was blessed during her lifetime with two husbands; Doc Maples, who passed away shortly after they married and the other, Albert Langford, who was her best friend until he passed in 2005. During her lifetime, God gave her two children and many grandchildren and great grandchildren.

She worked as a seamstress to help support her family in both Monroe and Itawamba County in garment factories. Mauvy eventually started and ran her own business in Mooreville named “Pillows by Mauvy”. A Christian, throughout her life, she attended many non-denominational churches and lastly she was a member of the Tupelo Church of God.

In her free time, she loved to be outside, surrounded by God’s beauty. While living in Mooreville, she owned a home with a lake, and she enjoyed fishing. Mauvy also grew beautiful flowers and just loved to admire the fall foliage every year, especially in Shiloh National Park. She enjoyed listening to old Country music and gospel always lifted her spirits. Most of all, she enjoyed spending time with her husband, family, and friends while they caught up on life.

Her family knows that she is at peace and completely healed. They will miss her dearly yet the memories of her will live on in their hearts.

Left behind to treasure her memories are her daughter, Pamela Morgan, Memphis; son, Paul Langford, Memphis; special son, Michael Sullivan; step-daughter, Wanda Blaylock; ten grandchildren; many great-grandchildren; two great-greatgrandchildren; her siblings, Earnest Herring, T.L. Herring, Eugene Herring, Faye Sanderson, Pat Wall, Pauline West, Ann Colburn, and Sue Smith; numerous nieces and nephews.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husbands, Doc Maples and Albert Langford; step-son, Keith Langford; grandson, Anthony “Tony” Langford; siblings, Ellis Herring, Bo Herring, James Herring, and Louise Wall.

A graveside Celebration of Life Service will be held on Friday, February 11, 2022, at 2:30 pm at Haughton Memorial Park with Bro. Dennis Smithey officiating.

There will be no public visitation.
