Sandra Karen (Horn) Johnson

Sandra Johnson, 83, passed away April 13, 2022 at her home in Starkville, Mississippi in the presence of her loving husband and children.

Sandra was born in Milwaukee, Wisconsin to Arthur and Luella Horn on August 7, 1938. When she was 10 years old, Art moved his family to Atlanta, Georgia. Sandra attended North Fulton High School in Atlanta.
Sandra married Ray Johnson September 6, 1958. In 1963, they moved to Starkville, Mississippi where her husband taught at Mississippi State University. Except for a short period in Stillwater, Oklahoma, Starkville was their home. Ray and Sandra were a loving couple for 63 years.

Sandra liked to travel and camp, particularly in the red rock canyons of the Southwestern United States. After her husband’s retirement, she enjoyed taking cruises. More recently, she and her husband liked to travel to the Gulf Coast. Regrettably, Corvid-19 put an end to travel.

Sandra was a people-person and loved to be with her friends. She loved bridge and was a member of several bridge groups, from shortly after she moved to Starkville to the beginning of Covid-19. She sold Avon for a number of years, being an excellent sales lady, and of course, socializing with her customers.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Arthur and Luella Horn and her son-in-law Johnny Moore.

She is survived by her husband Ray Johnson in Starkville, her brother Loren (Sharron) Horn in Henderson, Nevada, son Rusty (Joy) Johnson in Memphis, Tennessee, daughters Karen Moore and Leigh Ann (Frank) Williams, both in Starkville, Mississippi. There are 7 grandchildren, Brent Moore in Starkville, Mississippi, Brad Moore in Petal, Mississippi, Bryce Moore in New Orleans, Louisiana, Matt Williams in Tuscaloosa, Alabama, Luda Williams in Berry, Alabama, and Alexis Williams and Brandon Williams, both in Starkville, Mississippi. There are 6 great grandchildren.

A private memorial service will be scheduled at a later date.
