Mr. Michael Wayne “Mike” Shafer, Sr., 65, died Wednesday, November 9, 2022, at Baptist Memorial Hospital-Union County. The memorial service will be held at a later date.
Mike was born on May 20, 1957, to the late Thomas Shafer and Wilma Clemons. He won “Who’s-Who” in high school and after graduating, began working at Community Ford in New Albany as a car salesman. While at Community Ford, Mike won the National Certified Salesman of the Year Award two years in a row, the only employee at the company to win this award . As a man of faith, he started The Bread of Life Church in Pontotoc, MS, where he also served as the Pastor. In his spare time, Mike loved riding horses and was known as “Cowboy”. He is preceded in death by his son, Timothy Shafer and his brother, Thomas Shafer.
Mike is survived by his wife, Rener Shafer of Etta, MS; two daughters, Jeanie McAdory (James) of Louisville, MS and Sarah Nichole Grass (Cory) of Etta, MS; three sons, Jeremy Shafer (Randi) of Louisville, MS, Michael Shafer, Jr. of Tunica, MS, and William Shafer of Blue Mountain, MS; two sisters, Nancy White (Michael) of Tupelo, MS, and Patricia Hall of Oxford, MS; as well as 16 grandchildren.
