Mrs. Sue Mathis Sneed, 102, died Friday, February 3, 2023, at her daughter’s home in Pike Road, AL. The funeral will be Friday, February 10, 2023, at 2:00 P.M. at Oxford – University United Methodist Church with Rev. Chris McAlilly, Rev. Warren Black, and Rev. Bill Young officiating. Visitation will be held prior to the service beginning at 1:00 P.M. in the atrium of the church. Burial will follow in Oxford Memorial Cemetery.

Mrs. Sneed was born on July 3, 1920, to the late Harper and Willie Hardin Shaw Mathis. A pillar of the Oxford – University United Methodist Church for 75 years, she was a much beloved member and well known by all. Mrs. Sneed faithfully prepared the communion bread for the church for decades. She had a love of and great talent for preparing meals and was a gifted artist. Mrs. Sneed was deeply rooted in her community, serving as a member of the United Methodist Women’s Forum and the Oxford Garden Club. Through the years, she enjoyed many games of bridge with her dear friends. Above all, Mrs. Sneed loved her family and found great joy in watching each generation grow. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband of 57 years, Payne Avent Sneed and her siblings, Harry Mathis, Amna Mathis, and Eunice Mathis Young.

Mrs. Sneed is survived by her daughter, Susan Sneed Harrison of Pike Road, AL; son, Harry Avent Sneed (Vicki) of Oxford, MS; grandchildren, Susanne Harrison Estes (Scott), Don Harrison (Ginny), Mathis Sneed (Jill), Alicia Baladi, and Amy Bonds; great-grandchildren, Harrison Estes, Anna Grace Estes, Caroline Harrison, Payne Harrison, Ann Marie Harrison, Amelia Sneed, Andrew Sneed, Mary Reagan Richardson (Robert), George Baladi (Alexandra), Anna Baladi, John Baladi, Nikolaus Bossenberry, Laurel Bossenberry, Olivia Bossenberry, Kara Louise Bossenberry, Irelynn Bossenberry, and Emmeline Bonds; and great-great-grandsons, Joseph Baladi and Robert C. “Tripp” Richardson III.

The family wishes to thank Jennings Professional Home Care Services for the love and devotion they provided to Mrs. Sneed during her final years.
