Mr. McCord was born on November 24, 1942, in the Denmark, MS community, to the late Stanley and Clara McCord. A veteran of the U.S. Army, he was a Sergeant in the 11th Armored Calvary, serving in Vietnam. Mr. McCord’s selfless service on the frontlines earned him the great honor of being a Purple Heart Recipient. Once returning home, he started his company, McCord Ceramic Tile, becoming a known and trusted tile contractor in the Oxford area. Throughout the years, Mr. McCord remained a faithful member of the Disabled American Veterans and the Veterans of Foreign Wars. Each year, he looked forward to the 11th Armed Calvary reunions, telling and retelling stories with military buddies, looking back on their time in the service with both a reverence and a fondness for the bond they all shared. Mr. McCord was a member of Springdale Baptist Church and attendee of North Oxford Baptist Church.

He and his wife of 58 years, Dyanne, were devoted and loving parents to their three children. Mr. McCord was deeply proud when his children joined the Oxford High School band. Without hesitation, he and Dyanne devoted countless hours to whatever help was needed. From driving the equipment van to away games, working long hours in the concession stand, and serving as the president of the Band Booster club for several years, you could always find Mr. McCord graciously helping with a smile on his face. He got to experience the same joys over again once earning the title of “Pops”, spending as much time with his grandchildren as he could. In retirement, he found great enjoyment in bird watching and tending to his feeders. Mr. McCord’s idea of a perfect afternoon would be spent on the porch with his wife, watching the birds fly away and come back again. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his sister, Marion Hanson and his brother, Bobby McCord.

Mr. McCord is survived by his beloved wife, Dyanne Tallant McCord of Oxford, MS; his daughter, Penny McCord Smith and her husband, Don of Oxford, MS; sons, Donnie McCord and his wife, Mandy of Oxford, MS and Steven McCord of Oxford, MS; sister, Dianne Morrison of Oxford, MS; and his three grandchildren, Ryan Smith, Elizabeth-Anne Smith, and Kathryn McCord.

Expressions of sympathy or memorial contributions in Mr. McCord’s memory may be made to the charity of the donor’s choice.
