Friends and family come together in sadness at the passing of Robert R. Marriam, age 94. Bob was a beloved husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather. Bob died peacefully on April 1, 2023, surrounded by loved ones. A memorial graveside service will be held Tuesday, April 4, 2023, at 11:00 A.M. at Abbeville Cemetery with Rev. Don Gann and Rev. Hilton Lane officiating.
Born in Watertown, NY, Bob was a graduate of The University of Mississippi where he earned Bachelor’s and Master’s degrees in Chemical Engineering. He started his professional career in 1952 at Boeing where he worked on the design teams for the B-52 Bomber and the 707 Jetliner. In 1955, Bob joined W. R. Grace ad Company where he worked for 62 years. He is the holder of the US patent for the delivery system for liquid fertilizer.
He is survived by his beloved wife of 70 years, Roy Jean Hussey Marriam and his sister, Betty Ann Singer of Palm Springs, CA. Bob and Roy Jean have three children, Laurie Catherine Marriam Bartels, Leslie Susan Marriam Jackson, and Robert Roy Marriam, Jr. Grandchildren are Rebecca Jean Harris Beverly, Susan Marie Harris Jones, Brian Chester Bartels, Margret Ruth Harris Morgan, Michael Robert Bartels, Kristen Claire Marriam Overall. Bob also enjoyed spending time with his 13 great-grandchildren.
Profoundly missed and cherished, Bob was a Christian man of integrity, loyalty and love of family.
Bob was a member of First Baptist Church of Oxford, where he taught Sunday school for the “Young at Heart” class. He taught classes in various churches for over 60 years, ranging from children’s classes to senior adults. He also served as a deacon and on various committees over the years of his membership.
