Mr. Russell Lee “Rusty” Smith, 60, died Monday, April 10, 2023, at Baptist Memorial Hospital – North Mississippi. The funeral will be Thursday, April 13, 2023, at 2:00 P.M. in the Chapel of Waller Funeral Home with Rev. Fish Robinson officiating. Visitation will be held prior to the service beginning at 12:00 Noon. Burial will follow in North Oxford Cemetery.

Rusty was born on March 17, 1963, in Pontotoc, Mississippi to Lemuel and Peggy Smith. He worked at Sequel Electrical Supply in Oxford, and thought of those he worked with as family. In his younger days, Rusty enjoyed playing softball, and held onto his passion for sports long after he hung up the mitt. An avid Ole Miss fan, his favorite days were those spent in the Grove, surrounded by friends all cheering on the Rebels together. When there wasn’t a game on, Rusty enjoyed slipping away to the lake to fish. Most of all, he held his friends and family dear to his heart.

Rusty is survived by his parents, Lemuel and Peggy Smith of Oxford, MS; daughter, Caroline Smith (Dylan) of Vestavia Hills, AL; son, Thad Russell Smith of Vestavia Hills, AL; sister, Judy Smith Mills (Jim) of Abbeville, MS; brother, Don Smith (Penny) of Oxford, MS; his granddaughter, Lilith Brewster; and several nieces and nephews.
