Mr. Ellon Malcolm Cook, 74, died Sunday, April 16, 2023, at Baptist Memorial Hospital – North Mississippi. The graveside service will be Thursday, April 20, 2023, at 2:00 P.M. at Pine Flat Cemetery with Rev. Annette Ford officiating. Visitation will be held prior to the service beginning at 12:30 P.M. at Pine Flat United Methodist Church.

Mr. Cook was born on March 21, 1949, to the late Gilbert and Marie Cook. A devoted member of Pine Flat United Methodist Church, he had a philanthropic heart and was always looking for ways to help others. Mr. Cook founded a program through his church that filled shoeboxes to give to children in the community for Christmas. During the COVID-19 pandemic, when schools had closed, the cafeterias remained open to offer to-go lunches for children in need. Without hesitation, Mr. Cook took it upon himself to pick up these lunches from the school and deliver them to the kids. He wouldn’t accept any recognition for these kind acts, believing that’s just how you’re supposed to treat one another. He was a talented woodworker, truly mastering the craft, and had spent some of his last days helping his grandson build his own home. Mr. Cook found pleasure in the simple things in life, such as hunting, fishing, and watching the birds and deer from his favorite porch swing. As long as he knew his family was happy, that was enough for him. He’ll be greatly missed by his fur babies, whom he loved dearly. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his sister, Barbara McGregor and brother-in-law, Mike McGregor.

Mr. Cook is survived by his wife, Joyce Cook; his daughter, Traci Harwell and her husband, Ronnie; sister, Gloria Bishop and her husband, Larry; his grandson, Daniel Harwell and his wife, Erin; and his great-granddaughter, Kenzie Harwell, all of Oxford, MS; as well as his nephews, Bill McGregor and his wife, Dawn and Brent Bishop and his wife, Haley; and his great-nieces and nephews, John Michael McGregor, Banks Bishop, and Bella Bishop.

Expressions of sympathy or memorial contributions in Mr. Cook’s memory may be made to Oxford Lovepacks, P.O. Box 721, Oxford, MS 38655, or to Pine Flat Cemetery Fund, c/o Bill McGregor, 658 Highway 7 South, Oxford, MS 38655.
