Carol Jane Atkinson Dunn, 79, died Wednesday, April 12, 2023, at her home in Oxford, MS. The funeral will be Saturday, April 15, 2023, at 11:00 A.M. at St. Andrew’s United Methodist Church with Reverend Dennis Gossett officiating. Visitation will be held prior to the service beginning at 10:00 A.M.

Mrs. Dunn was born on September 6, 1943, to the late Irvin and Billie Stuart Atkinson. From the time she was a child, she exhibited an adventurous nature; always ready for anything. Carol saw beauty in everything, whether it was gardening, decorating her home, or traveling to new places with her husband. She was a cheerleader at Caldwell High School in Caldwell, KS, where she graduated in 1961. In 1964, while attending Oklahoma State University, Carol met her loving husband, William. Following her undergraduate studies, she moved to Ellis, Kansas where she began her teaching career. She and William married on June 11, 1965. Waco, TX became the first place they called home. Mrs. Dunn taught Home Economics at Reicher High School. In 1967, they returned to Stillwater, OK where she taught in several small towns across Oklahoma. When her husband completed his graduate studies in 1970, they moved to Clairmont, CA where she taught for a year. They later settled in Oak Park, IL where she taught at Oak Park and River Forrest High School, as well as Proviso East in Maywood, IL. She was a passionate teacher and devoted herself to the success of her students. After retiring and settling in Oxford, MS in 2003 Carol became a member of the Garden Club, The Oxford Quilters and a small, but close Book Club. She and William joined their son, Will as a member of the St. Andrews Methodist Church, where she was active helping in the community. She loved Oxford and the warmth it has provided her and her family over the past 19 years.

Carol Dunn is survived by her husband, William J. Dunn III of Oxford, MS; daughters, Molly Dunn of MA, Eva Margaret Dunn of Alexandria, VA; and her son, William Irvin Dunn of Oxford, MS.
