Gale Fortenberry Lewey
A Celebration of Life Service for Gale Fortenberry Lewey, 78, is set for 2:00 pm Tuesday at Memorial Funeral Home with Bro. Warren Jones officiating, Sammy Fortenberry and Dale Fortenberry doing the eulogy. Burial will follow in the Henry Cemetery. Family will receive friends Monday from 5:00 to 8:00 pm and Tuesday 12:00 to service time.
Gale departed this life on Friday, April 21, 2023 at Tishomingo Living Center. She was born February 9, 1945 in Edinburg, Leake County, MS to Buford and Clara Fortenberry. She was a 1963 graduate of Alcorn Central High School and went to work at Lamar Advertising (formally King and Stanley Advertising) at the age of 18. Gale worked 55 and ½ years for Lamar Advertising, having the longest tenure of any employee in the company’s history. She was a member of Central Baptist Church, the Eastern Star (Chapter 27) and Daughters of the Confederacy, Camp 333. She enjoyed caring for others, knitting, crocheting and traveling. Gale's greatest joy in life was her family.
She was preceded in death by her parents; brothers, William Floyd and Wilton Fortenberry; her friend, Horace Yearber; and numerous aunts, uncles, cousins and family members.
Gale is survived by her twin brother, Dale Fortenberry (Shirley); sister-in-law, Janice Wallace Fortenberry; nieces, Nancy Essary (Harold), Karen Fortenberry Weeks (Joe), Sandra Fortenberry Deas (Mack); one nephews, Sammy Fortenberry (Kay); three great nieces; three great nephews; three great great nieces; and five great great nephews.
Pallbearers are Jay Essary, Layton Essary, Nathan Morelock, Ben Knight, Nathan Knight and Chandler Knight. Honorary Pallbearers are Jake Tucker, Doug Mayhall, Marty Sellers and former/current employees of Lamar Advertising.

Have just found out about, One Of My Best Friends in Central High School, pasting away and Burial today!! Gale Fortenberry Lewey, Judy Russell Childers, Gayra Settlemires Sanders, Brenda Killough Sawyer, Barbara Strickland!! A Group of Best Friends for all of High school. Ssoo Sad to lose Gale. Being over the weekend and No mail yesterday, has left US finding this out, too late!!! Good By Our Friend. You Will be Missed. Consonance to your family.
