Herman McElwain, Jr., 88, passed away on Monday, April 24, 2023, at the Sanctuary Hospice House. He was born February 15, 1935, in Pontotoc, MS., to Herman and Florence Curry McElwain. He was a veteran, serving in the United States Army. He retired from United States Steel Corporation in Gary, Indiana, after 41 years, working in the Millwright department. He use to enjoy running his beagle dogs in rabbit field trials.
Services will be private. Burial will be in the Palmetto Methodist Church Cemetery.
Survivors include his wife, Rebecca Clouse McElwain; one daughter, Pamela Collis of Phoenix, AZ; one brother, Marvin McElwain of Palmetto; two sisters, Dorothy Pauline and Gloria; five grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by two sons, David G. McElwain and Ronald A. McElwain; one sister, Vick Hicks; and his parents.
