Mrs. Alma “Polly” Coaten Johnson died Saturday, May 20, 2023, at Yalobusha County Nursing Home. The funeral will be Wednesday, May 24, 2023, at 11:00 A.M. in the Chapel of Waller Funeral Home with Rev. Fish Robinson officiating. Visitation will be held prior to the service beginning at 9:00 A.M. Burial to follow at Oxford Memorial Cemetery.

Mrs. Johnson was born in Abbeville, MS to the late William Thomas Coaten and Hassie Estelle Betts. She spent fifty years as a beautician and started her own business, Polly’s Kut and Kurl. After years of running her own business, she worked at several hair styling shops. Mrs. Johnson loved her family more than anything and was very devoted to raising her large family. In her spare time, she enjoyed staying at the family cabin at Sardis Lake. She enjoyed cooking for her family and was known for collecting and trying new recipes. Mrs. Johnson was a member of North Oxford Baptist Church. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Thomas Wesley Johnson; daughter, Linda Mae Johnson Anderson; two brothers, A.C. Coaten and Creed Coaten; and two sisters, Lottie Mae Coaten Welch and Dorothy Rose Coaten Berry.

Mrs. Johnson is survived by four daughters, Mary Ann Johnson Evans and her husband, Wayne of Oxford, MS, Diana Jean Johnson Davis and her husband, L.A. of Oxford, MS, Cathy Lynn Johnson Notestone and her husband, Mike of Monticello, GA, Brenda Loyce Johnson Gill and her husband, Buddy of Brandon, MS; three sons, James Thomas Johnson and his fiancé, Mary East of Oxford, MS, Donald Wayne Johnson and his wife, Carolyn of Jacksonville, FL, Michael Stephen Johnson and his wife, Vicky of Oxford, MS; son-in-law, Ottis Anderson of Oxford, MS; as well as eleven grandchildren, twenty-four great-grandchildren and four great-great-grandchildren.
