Mrs. Elma Kate Edmondson Havens, 89, died Friday, July 7, 2023, at The Pinnacle in Oxford, MS. A private graveside service will be held at Eastover Memorial Cemetery with Rev. Annette Ford officiating.

Mrs. Havens was born December 20, 1933, in Vardaman, MS to the late Thomas Moore and Thelma Faulkner Edmondson. She was a beloved member of Taylor United Methodist Church. For over 20 years, she taught second grade. When she stepped away from teaching, she began working with her husband in his accounting practice. After her retirement, Mrs. Havens enjoyed a beautifully simple life. While she treasured the years spent teaching young minds, she quickly adjusted to slower, more relaxed days. Quiet evenings at home with her husband brought her great joy, as well as days spent working in the yard or on her various quilting projects. Once moving into The Pinnacle, she became quite the social butterfly, developing many close friendships with her fellow residents. Mrs. Havens was preceded in death by her husband of 49 years, Louis R. Havens; her son, Mark Havens; her sisters, Margaret Sprouse of Atlanta, GA and Peggy Wicker of Tupelo, MS; and two brothers, J.W. Edmondson and James Thomas “Jamie” Edmondson.

Mrs. Havens is survived by her daughter, Denise Havens Harris and her husband, Jerry of Oxford, MS; her sisters, Elizabeth Gilder of Starkville, MS and Dot Wiggs of West Point, MS; brother, Martin M. Edmondson of Vardaman, MS and Carter K. Edmondson of Vardaman, MS; four grandchildren, Sarah Katherine Havens, Jordan Elizabeth Havens, Haven Elisabeth Garrett and her husband, Henry, and Taylor McKinley Harris; and one great-grandchild, Jay Havens.

Expressions of sympathy or memorial contributions in Mrs. Havens’ memory may be made to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105 or online at st.jude.org.
