Mrs. Sandra Gay Rutledge DeHart, 78, died Friday, July 14, 2023, at her daughter’s home in Oxford, MS. Services will be held at a later date.
Born July 18, 1944 in Memphis, TN, Sandra was a graduate of Overton High School, where she was well loved and honored as Prom Queen. A true lover of sweets, chocolate or other sweet treats were the quickest way to win her over. As a dedicated Memphian, Sandra loved the city she called home, and watching her beloved Memphis State Tigers play football! She earned her Associates Degree from the University of Memphis and was a member of Island Community Church of Memphis. Sandra was a loving wife, precious mother, and amazing “Nanney” to all of her prized grands. She MOST enjoyed spending time with family and friends.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Elizabeth Liles and Robert James Rutledge.
Sandra is survived by her husband of 58 years, Robert “Tom” DeHart of Memphis, TN; daughter, Elizabeth DeHart Seemann (Ken) of Oxford, MS; son, Trey DeHart of Memphis, TN; son, J.D. DeHart (Susan) of Memphis, TN; grandchildren, Gabrielle McChesney (Ben) of Chicago, IL, Dominick Platt (Kaitlyn) of Chicago, IL, Tanner DeHart (Hallie) of Chattanooga, TN, and Dantz DeHart of Memphis, TN; great-grands, Aiden, Zoey, and Ivy McChesney, and Cole and Caroline Platt, all of Chicago, IL; as well as a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and many special and beloved friends.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions in Sandra’s memory may be made to Island Community Church, 721 North Parkway, Memphis, TN 38105, or to Shepherd’s Hospice, 106 West Bankhead Street, New Albany, MS 38652.
