MANTACHIE – Charles Leonard "Chuck" Smothers, 63, passed away Saturday, July 15, 2023, at the North Mississippi Medical Center Hospice Unit. He was born May 30, 1960, to Charles Allen and Mary Frances Turner Smothers. He was a graduate of Mantachie High School, a member of the Lakeland Southern Baptist Church, and a 32nd degree mason. He served in the Mississippi National Guard. Following in his grandpa Marvin Turner's footsteps, Chuck enjoyed a successful career as a salesman. He enjoyed fishing, hunting, golfing, traveling, and camping, and was an avid fan of NASCAR and Alabama football.

Services will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday, July 19, at the McNeece-Morris Funeral Home Chapel in Mantachie with Bro. Henry Jenkins officiating. Burial will be in the Stephens Cemetery.

Survivors include his wife, Sharon West Smothers, and his mother, Frances Smothers, both of Mantachie; one son, Charles Alex Smothers (Chanta) of Corinth; one daughter, Laci Nicole Payne (Russell) of Kingsport, TN; a bonus daughter, Heather Pearce (Matt) of Mantachie; his sister, Mary Jo Hinton (Barry) and sister-in-law, Elizabeth Smothers, both of Fulton; two grandchildren, Paige Smith and Chelsea Smith, both of Mantachie; a nephew, Alex Ryder (Holly); a niece, Kelly Ryder (Michael Berger); and his beloved fur babies, Buster and Lily.

He was preceded in death by his father, Charles Allen Smothers; his brother, Jerry Allen Smothers; a nephew, Joseph Scott Hinton; and his grandparents, William Robert and Vicki Smothers and Marvin and Mary Belle Turner.

Pallbearers will be Bobby Berryman, Barry Hinton, Billy Hughes, Jacob Mercer, Russell Payne, and Alex Ryder.

Visitation will be from 5 to 8 p.m. Tuesday, July 18, at the McNeece-Morris Funeral Home in Mantachie.
