Mrs. Barbara Ann Mitchell Appleton, 79, died Wednesday, August 9, 2023, at her home in Oxford, MS. The funeral will be Saturday, August 12, 2023, at 11:00 A.M. in the Chapel of Waller Funeral Home. Visitation will be held prior to the service beginning at 9:30 A.M. Burial will follow the service in St. Peter’s Cemetery.

Barbara was born on August 10, 1943, to the late Willie Burris and Elizabeth Ann Mitchell. For nearly 50 years, she worked as an LPN, lovingly caring for each patient entrusted to her. Her calling was for seniors and most of her career was spent caring for residents of nursing homes. Barbara was a member of North Oxford Baptist Church, where she attended for many years. She loved quiet afternoons spent reading or working in her flower garden, and especially loved to sit outside and watch her birds. Barbara always welcomed visits from family, joyfully inviting you inside with open arms and warm conversations. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Virgil Edward “Bill” Appleton; sister, Mae Jones; and brother, Charles Burris Mitchell, Sr.

Barbara is survived by her daughter, Rebecca Lynne Appleton of Oxford, MS; nieces and nephews, Dale Boatright and her husband, Tommy of Oxford, MS, Hubert Jones, Jr. and his wife, Marilyn of Tupelo, MS, Brenda Matthews of Greenville, MS, and Charles Burris Michell, Jr. and his wife, Cindy of Indianola, MS.
