Troy Kenneth Palmer, 89, passed away on Saturday, September 16, 2023, at the North Mississippi Medical Center Hospice Unit. He was born February 16, 1934, in Itawamba County, to William Jasper and Ozie Veola Whitaker Palmer.He was a 1953 graduate of Itawamba Agriculture High School. He attended I.J.C. for one year where he was a standout football player. He turned down a scholarship from Coach Shug Jordan at Auburn University to go to work. He had a long and successful career in food sales. He bought a Tom’s Truck where he was in sales for 20 years. He worked at Hardin’s Bakery for 21 years and at Borden’s Ice Cream for several years. He enjoyed traveling and camping with his wife, with whom he traveled to 42 different states with. He was an avid conversationalist and good story teller.

Services will be at 11:00 a.m. Tuesday, September 19, at the McNeece-Morris Funeral Home Chapel in Mantachie with Bro. Terry Paul Graham and Bro. Ricky Barnett officiating. Burial will be in the Center Star Cemetery.

Survivors include one special great nephew, Nelson McMillen; one special great niece, Mary Ann McMillen; a special sister-in-law and caregiver, Barbara Cates; four very special great -great nephews, Chase McMillen, Carson McMillen, Mason Hill, and Kain Kennedy; one brother, Robert Palmer (Margie); two sisters, Bonita Hester and Dorothy Page; one niece, Joann Blaylock (Dolly); one nephew, Ricky Johnson.

He was preceded in death by his wife of 67 years, Opal Franks Palmer; one daughter, Rita Gail Palmer Bailey; several siblings; and his parents.

Visitation will be Tuesday from 9:00 a.m. until service time at the McNeece-Morris Funeral Home Chapel in Mantachie.
