Janie Lou May Burks, a beloved mother and grandmother, passed away peacefully on November 29, 2023, in Vicksburg, Mississippi at the age of 82. She was born on March 2, 1941, in Bruce, Mississippi.

Janie devoted her life to her children and grandchildren, finding her utmost happiness and fulfillment in their presence. She had a passion for cooking and was renowned for her incredible peanut butter cakes, which always left everyone's taste buds craving for more.

With her warm and caring nature, Janie had a motto that she lived by: "Be kind to everyone, for you are not better than others, and others aren't better than you. Do what is right." These words reflected her humble and compassionate spirit, making a lasting impact on those fortunate enough to have known her.

Janie leaves behind a cherished legacy of love and devotion. She is survived by her loving daughter Martha (John) Woods of Vicksburg, daughter Brenda Truman of Pontotoc, son Robert (Sarah) Jenkins of Vardaman, and son Jerry Jenkins of Fulton. Her memory will forever be treasured by her children, 21 grandchildren, 38 great-grandchildren and 15 great-great grandchildren who will carry her kindness and strength in their hearts always.

Funeral arrangements have been made to honor Janie's life. A public viewing will take place at Parker Memorial Funeral Home in Vardaman on December 1, 2023, at 9:00 am. Following the viewing, a graveside service will be held at Ellzey Cemetery at 10:00 am with Bro. Robert Earl Alexander officiating.

Janie will be laid to rest at Ellzey Cemetery on December 1, 2023, at 10:00 am. Jamie Jenkins, Joshua Jenkins, Matthew Jenkins, Robert Jenkins, Thomas Jenkins and Lamar Wilkerson will serve as pallbearers.
