Joan Caraway
Calhoun City-Joan Caraway age 88 formerly of Baldwyn and the Pratt community, slipped from this earth to God’s paradise on December 21, 2023 at the Baptist Nursing Home in Calhoun City.
Joan was born on August 20, 1935 in Newport News, VA to Robert and Catherine Kemp. She graduated from Mountain Mission School in Grundy, VA in 1952. She then attended Cincinnati Christian University. Joan served on the alumni board for Mountain Mission School and served as alumni president for three terms.
She was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother and great grandmother who loved pampering her family. She especially enjoyed cooking large meals. Whether at her home or her children’s homes, Joan was in charge of the kitchen. She was a member of the Christian church in various locations where her husband pastored. She enjoyed singing and playing the piano and organ at several churches throughout their ministry.
She is survived by her husband of 70 years, Joe Caraway of Calhoun City, MS her sons Paul Caraway & Shannon of Columbus, MT, Brian Caraway & Lori of Madison, MS her daughter Alicia Havens & Carl of Calhoun City, MS grandchildren Callie Caraway, James Caraway, Kash Caraway, Summer Aldridge & Barrett, Holley Easley & Christopher, Anna Grace McGonagill, Patrick McGonagill & Courtney, Colby Havens and Cyle Havens; great grandchildren Jackson Lloyd, Olivia Easley, Jolee Easley and Mary Helen McGonagill and several nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents and eight siblings.
A service honoring Joan’s life will be held at the First Christian Church in Baldwyn, MS on December 29, 2023 with Bro. Kelly Carmichael officiating. Burial will be in the Calhoun cemetery in Calhoun Kentucky. Visitation will be at the church from noon until service time at 3 pm.
In lieu of flowers the family requests memorials be made to Mountain Mission School, 1760 Edgewater Drive, Grundy, VA 24614.
