Visitation will be held prior to the service beginning at 12:00 noon. Burial will follow the service in Sand Springs Cemetery in Pontotoc, MS.
Sherry was born on September 6, 1940, in Pontotoc County, MS, to the late Lenville Loraine Waldrop and Earl Douglas Graham. She was the 2nd person in the U.S. to undergo surgical treatment for Cushings Disease and survive. She would proudly recall her father selling a pig to pay off the medical bill. A member of the Hurricane community for nearly all of her life, she had a sense of community and belonging amongst her neighbors and friends. While it was hard for her to leave, she found comfort in the home of her daughter in Oxford for the last 14 years. The move was made easier by her great love of Ole Miss sports, never missing an opportunity to cheer on her Rebels in football, basketball, and baseball. Sherry taught piano for most of her life, instilling the passion she held for the instrument in the hearts of so many others. For the 60 years she taught, her price of $5 per lesson never increased, a testament to her love of music and teaching. Sherry lent her beautiful music to Toccopola Baptist Church, where she was a member, and to Lebanon Presbyterian Church, for over 30 years. She played the piano with the Walker family at the former Graceland Care Center of Oxford every second Saturday for over 17 years. Sherry shared her music as not only an offering of worship to the Lord, but also a gift to all those who had the pleasure of hearing her play. She authored a hymn that she would play with pride, and that will for years to come bring peace and comfort to her beloved family. In addition to her parents, Sherry was preceded in death by her two sons, Lowell McLaughlin and Landal McLaughlin; her daughter, Lorye Logan; and brother, J.D. Graham.
Sherry is survived by her daughter, Layne McLaughlin of Oxford, MS; a brother, Michael Graham (Rita) of Pontotoc, MS; eight grandchildren, Briana Brown (Dane), Gerry Logan, Jr. (Ann Marie), Cassi McGehee, Emily Bramlett (Denny), Koby Logan, Scotty McLaughlin (Sarah), Dani Smith (Owen), and Doug; 14 great-grandchildren; and her beloved dog, Ben.
Expressions of sympathy or memorial contributions in Sherry’s memory may be made to Sand Springs Cemetery Fund, 9730 Hurricane Road, Pontotoc, MS 38863.
