MANTACHIE – Vernell Price Barber, 95, known by several loving nicknames… Mama Nell, Miss Nell, and Vernie to her family and friends, passed away on Thursday, February 1, 2024, at the CountryWood Assisted Living Home in Mantachie. She was a long time Pre-Kindergarten teacher, Cub Scout Den Mother, and Homemaker while in Memphis, Tennessee. She and her husband, G. W. Barber returned to their hometown of Mantachie, Mississippi to retire.

A Celebration of her life will be at 2:00 p.m. Monday, February 5, 2024, at the McNeece- Morris Funeral Home Chapel in Mantachie with Minister Wendell Fikes officiating. Burial will be in the Oak Grove Cemetery.

She is survived by her two sons, Phillip P. Barber (Tina) of Houston, Texas, and John W. Barber (Linda) of Biloxi, Mississippi; six grandchildren, Amber Igienlinski (Chris) of Cleveland, Ohio, Bo Barber (Cari) of Houston, TX, Spring Sloan of Columbus, MS, Sara Cleveland (Dave) of Houston, TX, Layna Piatti (Mark) of Houston, TX, and Hayley Barber of Austin, TX; twelve great-grandchildren, Jordon, Aurelia, Kamryn, Lucas, Alex, Max, Lawson, Conner, Hugh, Lexi, Hayes, and Caroline.

She was preceded in death by her husband George W. Barber, Jr., her parents Conrad C. Price and Sallie E. Price; and her sisters Mary Coggins, and Sara Young.

Honorary pallbearers will be Carrol Herring, Jimmy Coggins, Malcolm McMullen, George McMullen, Chris Igienlinski, Bo Barber, and Matt Piatti.

Visitation will be from Monday from 1:00 p.m. until service time at the McNeece- Morris Funeral Home in Mantachie.
