Calvin Burton of Memphis TN, transitioned this life on January 31, 2024 at Methodist South Hospital.

He was born in Baldwyn, MS to the late Lena Mae Agnew and raised by his late parents Frank and Viola Burton in Corinth, MS. At an early age, he confessed hope in Christ at City Road Temple C.M.E. Church in Corinth, MS. Calvin graduated
from Easom High School in Corinth and continued his post secondary education at Mississippi Valley State University where he received a Bachelor of Science in. Education. He began his teaching career in 1969 at Olive Branch Middle School as an
Industrial Arts educator.

After retiring from the DeSoto County School District in Olive Branch MS, he filled his time with other interests. Calvin served as President of The Red Oaks Neighborhood Association and President of The Whitehaven Kiwanis Club. He graduated from the FBI Citizens Academy and completed training from the Shelby County Citizens University. Also, Calvin graduated from the Memphis Police Department Citizens Academy at Raines Station. He was also an Ambassador at Raines Station (MPD).

Calvin found time to serve his community in many different ways. While serving as president of the Red Oaks Neighborhood Association, Calvin along with Raines Station orchestrated the neighborhood’s “National Night Out”. He served as the 2008 chairman of the Memphis Neighborhood Fest, chaired the Whitehaven partnership committee and was a member of the Southwest Career and Technology Centers advisory board. He also earned the Frank L. Rickets Service Award. Calvin was an entrepreneur at heart. Many days you could find him selling his family products at various flea markets in different cities. He was also very fond of photography where he mastered this skill and has left a plethora of loving memories through photos.

He was preceded in death by his parents Lena Mae Agnew, Frank Burton and Viola Burton, sister Mary “Red” Burton, three brothers Ray J. Agnew, Stefan E. Agnew, and Sylvester Williams and two great grandchildren Jordan Kingsley Sanders and Xavier
Khali Marks.

He leaves to cherish his memories, his loving wife Margaret Burton, daughters Linda McKinnon and Jocelyn Robinson, brothers Harvey “Bobby” Burton(Doris) and Johnny Agnew (Paulette), sisters-in-law Lucy Nelson, Alice Agnew, Teresa Agnew and Virginia Williams. Grandchildren Nakeitra Burse (Creston), NaToya Sanders (Joey), Roslyn Marks (Clement), Jamila Robinson, Roger E. Robinson, Jr. and Braxton Curlee and two god daughters Trenice Hayes and Gloria Winfrey. He also leaves behind 7 great- grandchildren, a host of nieces, nephews, other family members and friends.
