Albert (“Brink”) Brinkley was born September 7, 1928, to the late Albert and Isodora
(Icy) Brinkley of Tupelo, Ms. He accepted Christ at a young age and was affiliated with
the Church of Christ during his childhood. He later united with Springhill M. B. Church
and remained active until his health began to fail.
Albert joined the U.S. Navy at the age of seventeen and was a career sailor. He
served during the Second World War and due to his long tenure, traveled around the
world twice. In the summer of 1951, Albert was united in marriage to Loretta Wise and
to this union six children were born. Upon retiring from the military, he worked for the U.
S. Department of the Interior at the John Allen National Fish Hatchery in Tupelo.
Albert was an active member of Phi Beta Sigma Fraternity. He was an avid hunter
and especially enjoyed bream fishing, cooking and spending time with his
grandchildren. He was a master leather craftsman and loved working with raw leather
to make belts, wallets, purses etc., complete with impressive designs and carvings.
Albert Brinkley was preceded in death by his wife, Loretta, and two sons, Fredrick
and Clifton. He leaves to cherish his memory; one daughter: Jennifer Brinkley of
Tupelo; three sons: Victor Brinkley of Hernando, Ms., Timothy Brinkley (Glenda) of West
Point, Ms. and James Brinkley (Kelli) of Austin, Tx.; one sister-in-law: Carolyn Long of
Raliegh, NC; one daughter-in-law: Geraldine Brinkley of Belden, Ms.; eleven
grandchildren: Sabrina Brinkley-Bell, Marquita Brinkley, Tomeka Shumpert Vakesha
Lewis, Victor Brinkley, Jr., Viktorya Brinkley, Breanna Johnson, Victoria Brinkley, Tia
Goss, Constance Brinkley, and Judith Brinkley; twenty great-grandchildren and a host of
nephews, nieces, cousins, and friends.
