Dennis “Big Bird” Alvin Bennett

Dennis "Big Bird" Alvin Bennett,57 of Calhoun City, MS. passed away on May 9, 2024 in Bruce, MS. Known for his playful spirit and love for laughter, Dennis endeared himself to all who crossed his path with his infectious humor and candid personality. Born on February 14, 1967, in Columbus, MS, Dennis brought light and joy into the lives of those around him.

Left to cherish his memory are his daughters, Haley (Stoney) Armstrong of Weir, MS, Kimberly Diane "Blake" Bennett of Columbus, and Emily Paige Bennett of Calhoun City, as well as his sons, Taylor (Rachel) Liles of Durham, NC. and Trent Liles of Vardaman, MS. Dennis also leaves behind his cherished grandson, Tyson Ray Bennett, who he would always give Cheese Puff's. His sister Janice (Rodney) Sullivan of Gulf Shores, AL.

Big Bird was preceded in death by his wife, Angela Reynold Bennett, father, James Bennett, and his mother Mary Hudson Bennett.

Dennis, or Big Bird as he was affectionately known, will be remembered for his mischievous pranks, his love of good jokes, and his unique way of telling it like it is. Despite his boisterous nature, his love for his family and friends knew no bounds, always looking out for them and offering his support when needed.

In honor of his life, a public viewing will be held at Parker Memorial Funeral Home in Bruce, MS, on May 11, 2024, from 12:00 pm until 3:00 pm, followed by a funeral service at the Parker Memorial Funeral Home Chapel at 3:00 pm with Bro. Roger Reeder officiating. He will be laid to rest in Oak Springs Cemetery. Harvey Hardin, Roncie Hardin, John "Bam Bam" Hill, Garrison Eaton, Matthew McCormick, R.J. Rivera, Corey Reynolds and Martin Ray White will serve as Pallbearers. Tyson Bennett, Jackie Durrough, Melvin Bailey, Dan Hardin, Demario McCoy, Keith Truss, Sturgis and his crew will serve as Honorary Pallbearers.
