OZARK COMMUNITY – Doris Laverne Wilburn, 83, passed away Tuesday night, June 4, 2024, at the North Mississippi Medical Center in Tupelo. She was born December 21, 1940, to the late Dow Stevens and Cleta Mae Christian Stevens. She retired from Daybrite Lighting after many years of service. She was a member of the Ozark Baptist Church. Laverne enjoyed working in her yard and being with her children.
Services will be at 11 a.m. Saturday, June 8, at the McNeece-Morris Funeral Home Chapel in Mantachie with Bro. Dempsey Rowland officiating. Burial will be in the Stephens Cemetery.
Survivors include three sons, Paul William Wilburn, Jr. (Evonne) of Houston, TX, David Allen Wilburn of Tupelo, and Johnny Dow Wilburn of Ozark; one daughter, Debra Laverne Haynes (Perri) of Ozark; and a host of grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her husband of 58 years, Paul William "Pete" Wilburn; her parents, Dow Stevens and Cleta Stevens Babicz; two brothers, Charles Stevens and Johnny Babicz; one sister, Louise Ward; and her maternal grandparents who reared her after the death of her parents, Ellie and Virgie Boyd Christian.
Pallbearers will be Jimmy Wilburn, Caid Harbin, Kevin Hatfield, Kaleb Hatfield, Johnny Baldwyn, and Mitch Nabors.
Visitation will be from 5 to 8 p.m. Friday, June 7, at the McNeece-Morris Funeral Home in Mantachie.
