Vadeen Burcham

August 16, 1932 ~ July 8, 2024

Vadeen Burcham–

Virginia Vadeen Barnett Burcham, 91, moved to her heavenly home early Monday morning on July 8, 2024. She was born on August 16,1932, to Paul and Ollie Barnett in Tishomingo County where she resided during her childhood. She lived in the Pratts Community in Lee County for most of her life where she was actively involved in community activities alongside her husband, L. R. Burcham. She was loved by all who knew her and she never refused to help anyone in need. She worked tirelessly as a mother and wife for many years while her children were young and during the years after they were all in school, she worked with the Baldwyn Public Schools, Blue Bell industries and the North Mississippi Medical Center.

After retirement, she served as a caregiver for several people in her community. She was a servant of the Lord and she blessed many with her selfless service and love. She was truly a Proverbs 31 woman whose life exemplified the words of our Lord, “Love the Lord thy God with all thy heart, with all thy soul and with all thy might” and she certainly “loved her neighbor as herself.” She was a member of the Friendship Baptist Church in Guntown, Mississippi.

Vadeen is survived by her children, Theresa Hellen, Janet Johnson and her husband, Mike, Joan Blassingame and her husband, Joe, all of Baldwyn, Mississippi and her daughter-in-law, Karen Burcham. Her pride and joy were her grandchildren, Renae Vallas and her husband, Jason, of Oxford, Katy Rose Wilson and her husband, Jordan, of Baldwyn and Blake Burcham and his wife, Megan of New Albany. She loved her grandchildren dearly but the apples of her eye were her great-grandchildren, Rosie Beth and Bo Butler Wilson (due in September), Jon and Joshua Vallas, and McKenzie and Marlie Burcham. They brought her much joy and happiness during the time that she had them. She loved her precious gifts from God and was anxiously awaiting the birth of Bo Butler this September. She is also survived by her sister, Ann Crabb of Booneville, her sisters-in-law, Joyce McKibben and her husband Gerald of Starkville, and Margaret Burcham of Saltillo, and her brother-in-law, Bill Colbert of Tupelo. Vadeen is survived by a host of nieces, nephews, great nieces, great nephews, and cousins whom she loved. She also leaves behind a multitude of friends who will certainly miss her.

Vadeen was preceded in death by her husband, L. R. Burcham, her son, Mark Roy Burcham, her parents, Ollie and Paul Barnett, her brother, Jay Barnett, her sisters, Vondeen Pruitt and Betty Colbert, her nieces, Judy Eaton and Vonda Pruitt, her great-niece, Christy Mitchell, and her great-nephew, Heath Crabb.

Visitation will be held at Waters Funeral Home, Baldwyn, 5 until 8 p.m. Tuesday, July 9, 2024, and her funeral service will be held Wednesday, July 10, 2024, 2 p.m. at Waters Funeral Home with Bro. Mike Johnson and Bro. Forrest officiating. Burial will be in Pratts Cemetery.

Pallbearers will be Ricky Barnett, Jeff Crabb, Mike Robinson, David Pruitt, Will Colbert, Blake Burcham, Jordan Wilson and Jason Vallas.

In lieu of flowers, the family is requesting that donations be made to the American Cancer Society, 1380 Livingston Lane, Jackson, MS 39213 or the Pratts Community Scholarship Fund, 193 CR 2890, Baldwyn, MS 38824.
