Mr. Gary Wayne Weaver, 70, died Sunday, July 21, 2024, at Baptist Memorial Hospital – North Mississippi. The funeral will be Wednesday, July 24, 2024, at 11:00 A.M. in the Chapel of Waller Funeral Home with Rev. Ronnie Dickinson officiating. Burial will follow the service in College Hill Presbyterian Cemetery. Visitation will be held Tuesday, July 23, 2024, from 5:00 P.M. until 7:00 P.M. at Waller Funeral Home.

Gary was born on April 16, 1954, in Memphis, TN, to the late Dorothy Christine Styers and Lonnie Wayne Weaver. He retired from Bellsouth Telecommunications where he worked as a fiber optic cable splicer. A member of College Hill Heights Baptist Church, he served on the Benevolence Committee and was the former head of the Building and Grounds Committee. Serving on these committees allowed Gary to give back to the community he loved so much, and he was known for the integrity and trust he brought to the table. An avid fisherman, Gary would throw a hook in any body of water he could find. He didn’t need a boat or a perfect day on Sardis, fully content with the ponds and lakes on his own property.

Gary was a natural storyteller. Armed with a keen sense of humor, his stories would take on a life of their own, and the more smiles and laughs he won, the more elaborate they would become. Many friends and relatives followed him on Facebook just to keep up with the hilarious and engaging tales he would post. Most of all, Gary was a family man. He loved and cherished every moment spent with them, and was intentional about creating special moments and memories. From the time his sons were 5, he coached their Little League baseball teams, leading them through victories and losses with the same encouragement and pride. When he became a grandfather, Gary’s heart expanded even more, and he looked forward to every moment he could spend with his children, grandchildren, nieces and nephews.

Gary is survived by his wife of 52 years, Brenda Weaver of Oxford, MS; sons, Lonnie Weaver and his wife, Nicki, of Oxford, MS and Greg Weaver and his wife, Marcela, of Hernando, MS; brother, Lon Weaver and his wife, Marilyn, of Oxford, MS; four grandchildren, Ashlee Wallace (Zach), Tyler Weaver, Kaylin Weaver (Nathan Tat), and Eli Weaver; and one great-grandson, Cooper Wallace.

Expressions of sympathy or memorial contributions in Gary’s memory may be made to College Hill Heights Baptist Church Benevolence Fund or Shoe Box Ministry, 147 County Road 102, Oxford, Mississippi 38655.
