Shelby Jean Conner Daughtry of Starkville died Saturday Morning July 20, 2024 at Providence Assisted Living Center in Grenada MS. Shelby was born on June 7, 1936, in Ripley MS. She was married to the late Rev Cornell Daughtry for 58 years until his death in 2013.
Shelby was a graduate of Whitehaven High School in Memphis, she lived her childhood years in Ripley MS, Memphis TN and St. Clair Shores MI. Being a minister’s wife, they lived most of their adult lives in New Albany MS, Winona MS, Moorhead MS, Indianola MS, Brooksville MS where Cornell was serving as pastor. They retired in Starkville MS, in 1999.
She is survived by her three sons Clay (Kathy) Daughtry of Cleveland AL, Lee (Kathy) Daughtry of Grenada MS and Brad (Laura) Daughtry of Huntsville AL. Six Grandchildren, Jess Daughtry, Josh Daughtry, Rachel Daughtry, Katelyn Daughtry, Lane Daughtry and Clay Daughtry Jr (Madison). She is also survived by her sister Dixie Bodamer Roberts (Jim) of Hiwassee GA. Two Sisters-in- Law Lorraine Goodwin of Carrollton MS and Sarah Conner of Canton Ga. And many cousins, nieces and nephews.
In addition to her husband, she is preceded in death by her Parents Lee Conner and Hazel Conner. Her Maternal Grandparents Robert Ellis Dunnam and Elsie Lou Dunnam and Her Paternal Grandparents William Frank Conner and Jennie Elizabeth Conner. Her brothers Jerald Conner. Ralph Conner and Curtis Conner, and one sister Debra Conner.
Visitation is set for Wednesday 7/24 at 10 AM, with Funeral Service immediately after for 11:00 AM at First Baptist Church, Starkville MS. Burial to be at Odd Fellows Cemetery in Starkville. Rev. Archie Goodwin will officiate the service. Clay Daughtry Jr. will give the opening prayer.
Pall Bearers are Jesse Daughtry, Josh Daughtry, Lane Daughtry, Clay Daughtry, Frankie Conner and Stan Acy.
The Family would like to thank the staff at Providence Assisted Living Center in Grenada, the Golden Triangle Council on Aging, Kathy Collins, Stan and Linda Acy, and Bobby and Angie Crosland for their care and assistance with Shelby.
In lieu of Flowers, the Family is requesting gifts be sent to St. Jude’s Children’s Research Hospital and the Mississippi Alzheimer’s Association.
