Sammy Joe Hawkins of Bruce, MS peacefully departed this life on December 29, 2024, at the age of 76. He was born in Bruce, Mississippi, on June 5, 1948,
Sammy Joe was a veteran who served in the National Guard for 25 years, embodying the spirit of dedication and service. Known for his sharp wit and infectious sense of humor, he brought joy to all those around him. His love for life was evident in his passion for raising cattle and going on horse rides. He enjoyed connecting with the people around him, sharing laughter and stories that created lasting memories.
Sammy is survived by his wife, Janice Parker Hawkins; his father, Fred Hawkins; son Justin (Laken) Hawkins; daughter Jina (Brad) Gunter; and grandchildren Mattie Hawkins, Sammie Gunter, Jessie Hawkins, Russ Gunter, and Harper Hawkins, all of Bruce, MS.
Family and friends are invited to pay their respects during the public viewing at Parker Memorial Funeral Home on January 1, 2025, from 12:00 PM until 2:00 PM. A funeral service will follow in the Parker Memorial Funeral Home Chapel at 2:00 PM, with Bro. Joey Hamilton officiating. Bobby Gordon Brown, Bill Cook, Michael Cook, Roncie Hardin, John Levy, and Michael Swanson will serve as pallbearers.
Following the service, Sammy Joe will be laid to rest at Bruce Cemetery.
Let us remember Sammy Joe for his unwavering spirit, love for family, and the laughter he brought into our lives. He will be missed but never forgotten.
Sammy Joe was preceded in death by his mother, Dorothy Jean Tiner Hawkins, and brothers, William "Bill" Hawkins, Wade Horton Hawkins.
