Mr. Jeffrey Harry Newman, 79, died Monday, February 24, 2025, at The Magnolia in Oxford, Mississippi. A graveside service will be held Friday, March 7, 2025, at 12:30 P.M. at Pine Crest Cemetery in Mobile, Alabama. A memorial service will follow at 2:00 P.M. at Government Street Presbyterian Church of Mobile, followed by a celebration of life from 4:00 P.M. until 6:00 P.M. at T.P. Crockmier’s.
Jeff was born on October 28, 1945, in Biloxi, Mississippi, to the late Emma Dee Lowe and James B. Newman. He served his country in the United States Army, before beginning his career as a realtor. A graduate of The University of Southern Mississippi, he was a member of Sigma Alpha Epsilon Fraternity. Some of his favorite weekends were those spent on alumni golf trips, where he enjoyed the company of old friends as they relived the glory days. A former resident of Mobile, Jeff was Executive Vice President of the Mobile Area Association of Realtors for over 30 years. His knowledge and expertise in the field was widely known and trusted by those in his community. Though he worked hard, Jeff played even harder. As the life of every party, he believed firmly in never taking life too seriously and that laughter was the best medicine. He put his charisma and good humor to work with the American Red Cross, teaching canoeing, swimming, and various other outdoor activities. Jeff’s passion for the outdoors was evident in his work and he found great fulfillment introducing others to the same joy he found in nature. He was a well-known face on the floats of his beloved mystic society, of which he was an active member, celebrating many years of Mardi Gras in the Mobile community.
Though Jeff touched many lives through his work and active lifestyle, nothing could compare to the impact he had on the lives of his grandsons, Woods and Hayes. He instilled in them many valuable lessons, respect for nature, and the merit found in hard and honest work. Relocating to Oxford to be closer to them, Jeff considered this final chapter of life one of his greatest. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Blair Aldridge Newman, and his sister, Kay Gonzales.
Jeff is survived by his daughter, Caroline Richards Newman of Mobile, AL; son, Christopher Lowe Newman of Oxford, MS; and two grandsons, Woods Granville Newman and Hayes Aldridge Newman.
