Robert Howard “Bob” McKenzie passed away Thursday, March 6, 2025 after a four year battle with cancer. A memorial service will be held on Sunday, March 30, 2025, at Greenview Memorial Park and Funeral Home in Florence, Alabama at 3:00 p.m. Visitation will be held prior to the service beginning at 1:00 p.m.
Born in Mobile, Alabama on December 5, 1942, Bob spent most of his youth in Birmingham, Alabama. He was a graduate of Howard University, now Samford University, where he played baseball. He graduated from Cumberland School of Law and spent the next 52 years representing clients with compassion and dedication. Bob served on the Florence School Board in the 1980’s and invested in youth for many years coaching youth football, baseball, soccer and basketball which was his passion.
Bob could be found on the Turtle Point golf course or having coffee in the mornings with the Mobile Street Mafia, his dearest friends, most days. He will be remembered for his quick wit and sense of humor which God lovingly let him keep until his final days.
Bob was preceded in death by his mother, June Cox McKenzie and his father, Alec Howard McKenzie. He is survived by his brother Pete McKenzie (Irvine, CA) and by his five children who brought him great pride and joy: his daughter Robyn McKenzie Tannehill and husband Rhea Tannehill of Oxford, Mississippi; his son Rob McKenzie of Starkville, Mississippi; his daughter Meg McKenzie Grantham and husband Brad Grantham of Oxford, Mississippi; his daughter Molly McKenzie Fulghom and her husband Will Fulghom of Tampa, Florida; and his son Matt McKenzie of Oxford, Mississippi. Bob leaves behind 14 grandchildren who share Bob’s love of sports and humor: Margaret McKenzie Tannehill, Molly Catherine Tannehill and Jack Tannehill of Oxford, Mississippi; Rivers McKenzie, Layton McKenzie and Hudson Kennedy of Oxford, Mississippi; Wynne Grantham and Price Grantham of Oxford, Mississippi; Catherine Rhea Fulghom, Helen Fulghom and Dean Fulghom of Tampa, Florida; Nora McKenzie, Murphey McKenzie and Colle McKenzie of Oxford, Mississippi.
