James Roy “Jim” Hampton

James Roy Hampton, 94, passed away peacefully in his home in Thaxton, MS on May 5, 2025.

Funeral services will be at Thaxton Community Church on Friday, May 9, 2025, at 2:00 P.M., with visitation an hour preceding the service at 1:00 P.M. A graveside service for family and friends will be held Saturday, May 10, 2025, at 11:00 A.M. in the Rosemark Cemetery in Rosemark, Tennessee.

Jim was a life-long Methodist, most recently a member of Thaxton Community Church. He was a veteran of the Korean War, having served as a motor pool mechanic in the Air Force at Clark Field in the Philippines. After graduating from The University of Tennessee at Martin with a degree in Agriculture, he continued his interest of agriculture and horticulture throughout his life. He was a skilled mechanic and craftsman who completed many DIY jobs and unique projects around the house.

He was preceded in death by his wife of 59 years, Nancy Ann Smith Hampton; his parents Earl Hendrix and Marie Johnson Hampton; brother, E H. Hampton Jr. and wife Martha, and sister, Marianne Jameson.

He is survived by his son, Brent Smith Hampton and daughter-in-law, Sarah Barker Hampton of Thaxton, MS. Brother-in-law James Jameson of Rutledge, TN. Nephews, Kennon (Molly) Hampton of Rosemark, TN, and Lee (Becky) Hampton of Kennesaw, Ga. Nieces, Charlotte (James) Roberson of Bolton, TN, Gail (Jack) Jenkins of Rutledge, TN, and Cherie Blakey of Rosemark, TN and their families.

The family wishes to extend deep appreciation to Safe and Sound Home Care and Gentiva Hospice for their wonderful and loving care that they provided to Jim and the family.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorials be made to the Thaxton Community Church (11067 Hwy 346, Thaxton, MS. 38871); The James Roy Hampton Agricultural Endowment at the University of Tennessee at Martin (1900 Alumni Way Martin, TN. 38238), St Jude Children’s Hospital (ALSAC/St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital 501 St. Jude Place Memphis, TN. 38105), or to the charity of your choice.
