Barbara Jeanne Spearman West

Mrs. Barbara Jeanne Spearman West, 81, died Wednesday, May 20, 2026, in Oxford, MS. The funeral service will be Sunday, May 24, 2026, at 2:00 P.M. in the Chapel of Waller Funeral Home with Rev. Donn Gann officiating. Burial will follow in Oxford Memorial Cemetery. Visitation will be prior to the service beginning at 12:30 P.M. at the funeral home.

Barbara was born in Oxford, MS on July 26, 1944, to the late Dr. W.A. Spearman, Jr. and Frances Purvis Spearman. After graduating as one of three as valedictorian at University High School, Barbara began her career as secretary and bookkeeper at Oxford High School, where she faithfully served for many years.

She married the love of her life, Thomas Dean West, and celebrated sixty-four wonderful years of marriage. Barbara and “Dean” built a life centered around faith, family, and treasured time together. They enjoyed traveling, camping, and cheering on the Ole Miss Rebels, creating countless memories along the way. She brought warmth and steadiness to all who knew her.

A lifelong member of First Baptist Church of Oxford, Barbara’s faith remained an important foundation throughout her life.

Barbara is survived by her husband, Thomas Dean West of Oxford, MS; sisters, Pat Hopson of Vicksburg, MS and Debbie Kilpatrick (Thomas) of Crosby, TX; and a host of nieces and nephews whom she loved dearly.
