Robert “Lee” Douglass, Jr., 73, of Oxford, MS, passed away peacefully at Baptist Memorial Hospital in Oxford, MS on May 31, 2026, after a courageous eight-year battle with cancer.
Lee was born on July 19, 1952, in Houston, TX to Robert Less Douglass, Sr. and Nona Marie Mills Douglass. Lee loved playing sports growing up and especially football where he earned the nickname “Leeper” after hurdling over another player who was trying to tackle him. He graduated from Deer Park High School in Deer Park, TX in 1970. After graduation he moved to Oxford, MS to attend the University of Mississippi. After two years at Ole Miss, he returned to Houston, TX to attend Pipe Fitters Apprentice School. After completing the program, he began his career in the oil and gas industry which took him all over the country. At the time of his retirement, he was employed as an Instrumentation & Electrical Inspector working on natural gas pipelines. He was a member of the Pipe Fitters Union. Lee loved gardening, fishing, cheering on the Ole Miss Rebels, and being “Uncle Lee”, but the thing that he loved the most in his life was spending his days with his wife and two loving dogs.
He is survived by his wife and best friend of twenty years, Dianna Forrest Douglass (Oxford, MS), his two fur-babies, Ziggy & Harmony, one brother Stuart (Teresa) Douglass (Deer Park, TX), his stepmother, Janice Reicker Douglass (Conroe, TX), his mother-in-law, Barbara (Toby) Pace (Burns, TN), stepmother-in-law, Ann Palmer (Camden, TN), and two sisters-in-law, Jenny (Michael) Mink (Burns, TN) & Christina Forrest (Big Sandy, TN), and one stepsister-in-law, Bethany (Casey) Smith (Big Sandy, TN). He is also survived by numerous nieces, nephews, great-nieces, and great-nephews.
He is preceded in death by his parents, Robert Lee Douglass, Sr. and Nona Marie Mills Douglass, two brothers, Roger Clinton Douglass and Sidney Douglass, and his father-in-law, Robert “Sandy” Forrest.
A celebration of life will be announced at a later date for friends and family at a location in Tennessee.
