Col (R) Eugene George “Gene” Buglewicz, 83, died Tuesday, July 7, 2026, at Radiance of Oxford (formerly The Pinnacle). The memorial service will be Saturday, July 18, 2026, at 11:00 A.M. at St. John The Evangelist Catholic Church with Father Mark Shoffner officiating. Visitation will be prior to the service beginning at 10:00 A.M. Innichement will follow at St. John’s Columbarium.
Gene was born on November 10, 1942, in Omaha, NE, to the late Joseph and Marie Buglewicz. He lived a full and meaningful life, devoted to both his family and country. A proud veteran of the United States Marine Corps, Gene served honorably in Vietnam before retiring after a distinguished military career. Following his service, he retired as Division Chief of the United States Corps of Engineers. He was a dedicated member of the Marine Corps League, a Fourth Degree Knights of Columbus, and remained committed to serving others throughout his life.
Gene’s passion for teaching led him to Vicksburg Catholic School and later to Hinds Community College, where he became a respected teacher, mentor, and “Coach” to many students. Gene will be remembered for many things and by so many who’s lives he touched.
Gene and his beloved wife of fifty-seven years, Joan, shared a love of travel. Gene preferred driving so he wouldn’t miss the small things. When they were not on the open road, they enjoyed cruising, ski trips, and family get-aways. Gene was an active member of University of Nebraska’s Pi Kappa Phi fraternity where he maintained many close relationships and enjoyed reminiscing at the reunions he attended.
He was a loving husband, father, and grandfather. He will especially be remembered for his gentle and easy-going spirit. In addition, Gene never missed any opportunity to volunteer at church or fundraise for many charitable organizations.
In addition to his parents, Gene was preceded in death by his son, Douglas “Doug” Richard Buglewicz, and two brothers, Richard Buglewicz and Christopher Buglewicz.
Gene is survived by his wife, Joan Wallace Buglewicz of Oxford, MS; a son, Andrew Buglewicz (Malinda) of Oxford, MS; his brothers, Joseph J. Buglewicz of Tucson, AZ, and James V. Buglewicz of Los Angeles, CA; grandchild, Vivienne Buglewicz; numerous beloved nieces, nephews, great nieces and nephews.
