Wanda Jean Conner

January 29, 1924 – March 8, 2020

Wanda Jean Conner went to sleep and woke up in the arms of her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ, Sunday March 8, 2020 at the age of 96. She was a faithful wife, a loving, dedicated mother and a devoutly Christian woman as the well-worn, extensively highlighted and underlined verses of her Bible testify. Her passing was a blessing as she graduated to her eternal home in heaven to be with her Savior. She leaves behind a legacy of perseverance in the face of adversity, spiritual dedication and a strong sense of family. She will be missed by all who knew and loved her.

She was born January 29, 1924 in Tempson, Texas, the second of 13 children. The family moved to Portales, New Mexico where her mother, Mary Jane Mahan, and father, John Thomas Mahan, were eventually laid to rest side by side, J.T in 1947 and Mary Jane in 1989. There she attended school and graduated from high school and went on to attend two years of college at Eastern New Mexico University. At various times in her life she worked as a court reporter for the army in Japan, a telephone operator in Hobbs, New Mexico, a clerk at Gibson Discount Center in Hobbs and a secretary at New Mexico Rehabilitation Center in Roswell, New Mexico. She served as a foster grandparent in grade schools in Oxford, MS where she lived for a total of 28 years.

Wanda Jean was preceded in death by her husband of 22 years, Marshal Conner in 1992; 9 siblings, Dorothy, Louise, Yvonne, Charles (Bo), Wayne, Billie Joyce, Janice, David and Tommy; one grandson, Levi Minyard. She is survived by three siblings, Carol Mahan, Carolyn Girton and Patsy Tabor; two children, Thomas Pittmon and Robin Minyard; three grandchildren Christina Farrar, Jennifer Geiger and Destiny Owens; six great-granchildren, Joshua Geiger, Casey Geiger, Bridget Geiger, Caleb Owens, Aiden Owens, Alex Minyard and Grace Piiparienen; one great-great grandchild, Simon Minyard.

Should friends desire, Robin would love for you to honor her mom by providing Recovery Bibles for the Oxford Church of Christ “Power of Choice” mission field.
