Billy Bert Hamilton, 88, of Vardaman passed from this life on Tuesday, August 11, 2020, at the State Veterans Home in Oxford. Born on February 25, 1932, in the Wardwell Community, Billy was a son to the late Hugh Gaston Hamilton and Ruby Leola Hardin Hamilton.
Billy, a United States Air Force Veteran, served his country during the Korean War. His tour in the armed forces lasted over a decade a time which proved his worth as solider. Billy was the recipient of three distinguishable awards: National Defense Medal, Good Conduct Medal, and Army Occupation Medal. When Billy returned home from overseas he landed a job in the timber industry as a logger. He spent his days, trimming, cruising, and cutting lumber which provided the framework to build the very nation he fought to protect years before. Billy lived upon the level and by the square as member of the Vardaman Masonic Lodge. He proudly belonged to the American Legion and Disabled American Veterans. Billy found joy in various types of fishing from the more traditional baiting a hook and casting a line to grabbling for a feisty flathead catfish. When Billy wasn’t on the water after a fish he could be found patiently awaiting a deer on a relaxing hunt. As a member of New Providence Baptist Church, Billy knew the Lord and His promise of life after death.
He leaves behind an expansive family to carry his memory in their hearts for the remainder of their days; loving wife Doris Harrell Hamilton; one son Barry ( Karen) Hamilton of Water Valley; one daughter Lindy Hamilton Monaghan of Vardaman; three grandchildren: Jace Hamilton, Karla Brown, and Brooke Monaghan; five sisters: Carolyn Henson of Bartlett, Tennessee; Jean Sanderson of Kansas City, Missouri; Gloria (Al) Gilless of Southaven, Mississippi; Gwen (Larry) Pace of Marietta, Georgia; and June (Grover) Edington of Vardaman, Mississippi.
Billy was preceded in death by his parents, Hugh Gaston Hamilton and Ruby Leola Hardin Hamilton; one brother, Hugh Anderson Hamilton; three sisters: Ruth Cole, Peggy Sue Hodge, and Shelba Joyce Willis.
The graveside service remembering Billy’s life will take place on Wednesday, August 12, 2020, at 4:00 PM in Hillcrest Cemetery with Bro. Joe Carl Sanderson officiating. Walt Edington, Jace Hamilton, Don Harrell, David Holloway, Phil Lucius, and Hal Willis will carry Billy to his final resting place.
