Listen to this obituary

Houston – Ivan Garrett Woodman “Woody”, 69, passed away on Saturday, August 15, 2020 at his residence in Houston, MS. Born on September 21, 1950, in Bangor, Maine, he was the son of the late Victor Russell Woodman and Tiny Ruth Evans Woodman.

He married the love of his life, Edna Law Woodman, on July 24, 1969 and they were happily married for 51 years. They were blessed with three children. Woody was a great provider for his family. He was self- employed, working as a truck driver, as well as performing maintenance and repairing tires for heavy equipment. When it came to work, he had a dominant personality, as he was very knowledgeable about his trade. After he retired, he still enjoyed working on heavy equipment and vulcanizing tires.

Woody was a friendly yet stubborn man who was outgoing and well known and loved by his family and friends. He was a member of the Assembly of God Church, believed in Christ, and he lived his faith through actions, not words. He loved all things outdoors, taking great pride in his gardening and fishing catches. He was good at growing vegetables and enjoyed spending time camping at Morgan’s landing and hanging out with his dog “Bo.” Woody liked listening to Country Music, especially Loretta Lynn, Johnny Cash, and anything played on 104.9 FM Kutzu Radio. Some of his close friends included Kent Shoemaker, Skeeter Atkinson, and Allen Shoemaker.

A man who left a big imprint on his friends and family members, Woody will never be forgotten. The memories made with him will cherished for years to come.

Woody is survived by his loving wife, Edna Law Woodman, Houston; son, Tommy Wayne Woodman, Athens/Quincy; daughters, Stacia Michelle Hawkins (Toby), Athens/Quincy, and Frances Victoria Poores (Stephen), Athens/Quincy; grandchildren, Justin, Zachary, Celeste, Houston, Dakota, Hayden, McKenzie, Caden, Colton, and Lakynn; great grandchildren, Kye, Aurie, and Elijah; brother, Mark Woodman, Barnwell, SC; sister, Pam Stephens (Roger), Aiken, SC.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Victor Russell and Tiny Ruth Evans Woodman.

  1. We wish to leave our deepest sympathy to the family of Ivan Woodman. Ivan was in our classes with us all through school. The class had reunions frequently always hoping that he might make it to Blackville to attend one. Sincere sympathy is sent to his family.
