Bessie Mae Hughes, age 90, of Water Valley, MS departed her earthly home, November 11, 2020, at Yalobusha County Nursing Home. She was born February 17, 1930, in Water Valley, MS to the late Golie and Addie (Bell) Mize. Bessie was a life long resident of Water Valley, a member of First Baptist Church, and also belonged to the Order of Eastern Star for over fifty years. She dedicated her life to her family as a homemaker. She enjoyed the simple things in life, such as being an avid reader, playing scrabble and bridge. She also loved traveling, where she camped in all fifty states and abroad.
A graveside service will be held Monday, November 16, 2020 at 2:00PM in Oak Hill Cemetery.
Bessie is survived by one daughter, Terry McQueen (Mike) of Houston, TX; one sister, Mary Lou Jones of Water Valley; three grandsons, Cam McQueen, Tyler McQueen (Annie), Matt McQueen (Catherine); four great grandchildren, Cash, Lila, Georgia and Hank McQueen; as well as numerous nieces and nephews.
As well as her parents, Bessie was preceded in death by her husband, Cleo Hughes; and one brother, Golie Mize Jr.
