Gary Weathers
New Albany – Gary Darrell Weathers, 82, passed away on Saturday, November 21, 2020 at North Mississippi Medical Center in Tupelo. He was born on November 24, 1937 in Portland, OR to Albert and Mary Weathers. He served in aviation of the U.S. Navy.
He will be remembered for his many interests and hobbies, from camping, fishing, hunting or repairing clocks and even writing poetry. He founded “Coats for Kids.” Perhaps, he will be remembered by many amazed children over the last thirty years for his trick of pulling quarters from their ears. He was a member of Bethlehem Methodist Church in New Albany.
Visitation will be on Monday, November 23, 2020 from 10:30a.m. until funeral service time at 12:00p.m. at United Funeral Service. A graveside service will follow at Glenfield Memorial Park. Dr. Jeff Lawrence and Bro. Brownie Tohill will officiate. United Funeral Service is honored to be entrusted with these arrangements.
He is survived by his wife, Martha Sara Nowlin Weathers; one daughter, Melissa Kinard (Russ) of Henderson, TN; three sons, Daryl Weathers (Brent) of Etta, Marc Weathers (Regina) of New Albany and Jeff Potts (Alice) of Etta; fifteen grandchildren: JR Kinard (Ashley), Rachel Kinard, Madison Hensley (Nick), Paige Treadaway (Joe), Laken Hall (Easton), Chance Weathers, Stormy Weathers, Baylor Weathers, Brooklyn Weathers, Tristen Weathers, Seri Potts, Kandace Jumper (Zak), Jacob Guin, Britney Guin, and Courtney Guin; and by eight great grandchildren: Sawyer, Silas, Swayze, Rigley, Cora, Maverick, Shay and McKinley.
He was preceded in death by his parents; two brothers, Larry Weathers and Lee Weathers; and a sister, Charlotte Bail.
Pallbearers will be Chance Weathers, Stormy Weathers, Joe Treadaway, Easton Hall, John Woods and David Chapin. American Legion Post 72 will conduct military honors and serve as honorary pallbearers.
In honor of his service to his country, United Funeral Service will fly the U.S. Navy flag during his visitation and funeral service.
