Rex Evans Pumphrey

October 18, 1934 – February 22, 2021

West Point, MS – Rex E. Pumphrey, 86, passed away on February 22, 2021 at Dugan Memorial Home in West Point. He was born October 18, 1934 in Houston, MS to Lucille Davis and Charlie Marion Pumphrey. He was a Babcock and Wilcox Maintenance Electrician for 33 1/2 years and was a member of West End Baptist Church. Rex was a Veteran of the Mississippi Army National Guard and was a Clay County Constable in District 1 for 16 years and a Deputy Sheriff for the Clay County Sheriff's Department for 18 years. He was also a member of the West Point Masonic Lodge #40 F.& A.M. where he was a Master Mason. Rex married Mildred Perkins Stovall on May 3, 1958, in Prairie.

Visitation will be Thursday, February 25 from 9:00-10:00am at the Calvert Funeral Home Chapel. Graveside services will be at 11:00am at Arbor Grove Cemetery with Reverend Jason Middleton officiating. Burial will immediately follow. Calvert Funeral Home of West Point is honored to be entrusted with the arrangements.

Survivors include his wife Mildred Pumphrey of West Point; 2 daughters, Tami Riley (Dave) of West Point and Libby Pierce of West Point; 2 sons, John (Jackie) Stovall, III and Steven Pumphrey of West Point; 4 grandchildren, Shannon Hall (R.D.), Erica Turnipseed (Brock), Chris Rodgers and Kale Pierce (Maegan); 5 great grandchildren, Evan Atkins, Hannah Atkins, Dalton Turnipseed, Riley Turnipseed, and Waverly Jean Pierce; 1 sister, Margaret Gurley of Houston; 1 brother, J.E. Pumphrey (Evelyn) of Houston and 1 brother-in-law, Arlie Perkins, Jr. (Sandra) of Aberdeen. Preceding him in death were his parents, Charlie and Lucille Pumphrey; 3 brothers, Charles Robert, Curtis, and Rev. Cecil Pumphrey; 1 brother-in-law, George Perkins.

Pallbearers will be Gary Duncan, Chris Rodgers, Kale Pierce, Evan Atkins, Brock Turnipseed, Dalton Turnipseed, Jimbo Garrard, and Tom Ray.

Honorary Pallbearers are Jim Dick Nelson, C.B. Thompson, The Middleton Family, Friends at West End Baptist Church, Former Employees of Babcock and Wilcox, Riley Thompson, Jimmy Duke, the staff of Dugan Nursing home, and Dr. Ed and Brett Miller.
