Mary Ray

Mary Evelyn Harmon Ray passed away peacefully at home on April 19, 2021, after an extended illness. Born to parents Milton and Josephine Elizabeth Harmon in Chickasaw County Mississippi on July 6, 1935, Mary spent most of her life in and round West Point. In 1953, Mary married the love of her life, Mancil Wells Ray, and together they began a beautiful journey that endured the tests of time for 68 years. For the first part of her married life, Mary was a stay-at-home mom to daughters Leah and Kim. When her children entered middle school, she decided to enter the workforce by putting her extraordinary seamstress skills to use by securing a job r and at Artex. A few years later, Mary began her banking career. She worked at The Bank of West Point, Bank of Mississippi and Bancorp South. Her jobs went from proof-reading and posting checks to bank teller Branch Manager, and Head Teller. After retirement, Mary loved working with her beloved church, Christ United Methodist Church. She enjoyed cooking for her family and friends and of course being a grandmom and great grandmom. Mrs. Ray was predeceased by her parents, and seven siblings.
Mary is survived by her loving husband, Mancil Ray, daughter Leah Montgomery, and daughter Kim West (Stan) ; grand daughter, Jennifer Montgomery Woodson (Steven) and grandson Matthew Ray Montgomery; great granddaughters, Mary Ray Swoope and Mollie Katherine Swoope ; her brother, James Milton (Buck) Harmon (Ann) and sister, Gladys Harmon Davis, all of West Point. Also surviving is brother-in-law, Curtis (Fay) of Cincinnati, Ohio along with many cousins, nieces, nephews and longtime beloved caregiver and family friend, Teresa Strong.
Graveside service will be held 2 PM Wednesday at Memorial Gardens with Dr. Robert Rambo (Bob), her nephew, officiating. The family will receive visitors from 1:30 p.m. until the time of the service at the cemetery. Pallbearers are her nephews: Mike Colbert, Dickie Rambo, Steve Harmon, Kirk Harmon, Tyler Davis and grandson-in-law, Steven Woodruff. Honorary pallbearers are the United Methodist Men of Christ United Methodist Church in West Point. Memorials may be made to Christ United Methodist Church P.O. Box 722 West Point, MS 39773. Services have been entrusted to Robinson Funeral Home.
