Services to celebrate the life of James "J.R." Roosevelt Davis, 88, will be held Saturday at 1:00 pm at Memorial Funeral Home with burial to follow in the Davis Family Cemetery. Visitation will begin at 11:00 am until service time at 1:00 pm.

J.R. passed on August 12, 2021 at his residence. He was born in the Rienzi community on April 24, 1933 to the late Jim and Wilma Davis. As a child, his family share cropped and moved around in the Alcorn and Tippah areas. He married the love of his life, Freida Imogene Settlemires on December 20th, 1952. After marriage they moved to Chicago where he worked for Hotpoint for several years. The couple moved back to Hatchie bottom where they built their home on Imogene's home place. He worked at Wurlitzer for 23 years, for the fifth district as supervisor, and retired from MDOT in 1998.

He is survived by his wife of 69 years, Freida Imogene Davis; son, Kerry James Davis; daughters, Nyla Hood (Joey P.) and Sonya Davis Devers (Joey); grandchildren, Wesley James Davis (Kayla), Colton Blake Jumper (Megan), Nyla Kristen "Kris" Devers Nelms (Peyton), Carree Lynn Davis, Brady Hood and Abby Hood; great-grandchildren, Bentley Madison Hall, Blakely Mae Jumper, Wyatt James Davis, and Gunner Wayne Nelms; brothers, Gene Davis and Garvin "Pood" Davis; sister, Gladys "Jodie" Crowe; and a host of nieces, nephews, family and friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Jim and Wilma Davis; brothers, Taylor and Ellis Davis; and a grandson, Ryne Keith Wilhite.

Pallbearers will be Joey Devers, Joey P. Hood, Wesley Davis, Colton Jumper, Peyton Nelms, and Brady Hood.
