Georgia Laverne Thompson

December 18, 1927 – September 30, 2021

Georgia Laverne (Harmon) Thompson, age 93, of Water Valley, MS passed from this life Thursday, September 30, 2021, at the Yalobusha County Nursing Home. She was born in Delay, MS to the late Richard and Rosa (Holmes) Harmon. Laverne had a servants heart which showed in the job she performed at St. Josephs Hospital in Memphis where she assisted in the treatment of children with Polio. Later, after she and Archie moved back to Water Valley, she went to work at Big Yank for many years until her health precluded her from continuing. She was a down to earth woman who enjoyed many simple pleasures in life. These included gardening, working with her flowers and reading, especially her Bible. But the greatest joy she had was serving The Lord through her membership at Campground Baptist church where she had been a Sunday School, and VBS teacher.

Georgia is survived by two daughters, Ginger Mills and Sandra Crews, both of Water Valley, MS; ten grandchildren; twenty-eight great-grandchildren; and fourteen great-great-grandchildren.

In addition to her parents, Georgia was preceded in death by her husband of sixty-three years, Archie Thompson, JR; one son, Larry Dean Thompson; four brothers and four sisters.

Due to Covid concerns, the family will be hold a private service.
