Jerry Merritt, Sr.
Myrtle – Bro. Jerry Clay Merritt, Sr., 71, passed away on Tuesday, October 19, 2021 at Sunshine Nursing Home in Myrtle. He was born January 26, 1950 in Union County to Betty Lou Basil Merritt and the late, George Marlin Merritt. He was a veteran of the U.S. Army. Before retirement, he had been a truck driver and had worked for Union County. He was a retired minister and a member of Denmark Baptist Church in Lafayette County. Some of his hobbies and interest were hunting, fishing and gardening. He enjoyed restoring old tractors and building race cars.
Funeral services will be at 11:00a.m. Friday, October 22, 2021 at United Funeral Service with Bro. Marty Merritt officiating. Burial will be at Glenfield Memorial Park.
He is survived by his mother, Betty Lou Basil Merritt; three daughters, Vickie Pruett, Lisa Cook (Marty) and Tabitha Martin (Tony); two sons, Marty Merritt (Shelly) and Jerry Clay Merritt, Jr. (Crystal); one sister, Betty Ann Pickens; one brother, Guy Philip Merritt; twelve grandchildren and five great grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Diane Pipkin Merritt; his father; and a brother, Roger Allen Merritt.
Visitation will be on Friday, October 22, 2021 from 10:00a.m. until service time at the funeral home.
United Funeral Service is honored to be entrusted with these arrangements and, in honor of his military service to his country, will fly the U.S. Army flag during his visitation and funeral service.
