Wava Eaker Rakestraw

Wava Eaker Hall Rakestraw, 77, went to be with her Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, on Sunday, January 30, 2022. She was born on March 5, 1944 to Broadus Eaker and Vanna Lou Bell Eaker in New Albany. She graduated as Salutatorian from Ingomar School in 1962. She attended Northeast College and finished business college. She worked at Union County General Hospital many years before retiring in 1986. She also worked many years at Union County Wood Components as office manager and retired. She got her cosmetology license to fix hair when she was 50 years old. She was a member of the American Legion Auxillary.
She enjoyed gardening, working in flower beds, attending church and singings, spending time with her grandchildren and playing the piano. She loved to watch the weather and call family and friends to let them know.
She attended Mt. Gilead Baptist Church.
Funeral services will be at 1:00p.m. Wednesday, February 2, 2022 at United Funeral Service with Bro. Jimmy Russell, Bro. Andy Russell and Bro. Larry Bain officiating. Burial will be at Community Cemetery in the Center Community.
She is survived by her daughters, Regina Hall Hogue (Mike) and Robin Hall Easley (Kenny); one son, Ronnie Hall (Patricia); three sisters, Linda Womack, Kaye Hall (Edgar)and Gloria Bennett (Mike), all of New Albany; two brothers, Jimmy Eaker (Joyce) of New Albany and Larry Eaker of Tupelo; a brother-in-law, Tommy Henderson of New Albany; five grandchildren: Lacy Hall (Kim), Jacob Hall (Beth), Neely Hall, Nicole Hogue of New Albany and Amanda Carter (Chris) of Florence, AL; six great grandchildren: Aubrey Hall, Nathan Wilson, Jacob Wilson, Claire Maharrey, Adalynn Carter and Knox Carter; and several nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Darrell Rakestraw; her parents; and one sister, Wanda Henderson.
Memorials can be made to Sanctuary Hospice House in Tupelo or to the American Legion Post 72 in New Albany.
Visitation will be Tuesday, February 1, 2022 from 6:00p.m. til 8:00p.m. at the funeral home.
