George Edward Russell

Our father, George Edward Russell, 73 years old, was received by our Lord Jesus Christ on Thursday, May 19, 2022. Born in St. Louis on October 16, 1948 and then raised on a farm in Farmington, Missouri. He was taught by his loving parents, Leo and Neoma Russell the importance of family, hard work, and Jesus. He shared many stories about working alongside his dad on the farm and the many memories he made alongside his baby sister, Peggy.

He graduated from Ste. Genevieve High School in 1966 and soon started his family that included his first baby girl, Diana Lynn, in 1967 and Sheila Ann was born in 1968. The family was complete when Jennifer Joy arrived in 1977. George started his own trucking business, Poplar Bluff Express, in April 1974 and later owned and operated Springhill Farm and Garden Center in Saltillo, MS. Besides his girls, he was proud of his loving wife of over 40 years, Sammie Carolyn Russell. They loved to travel together, garden, and spend time with family and friends. George never met a stranger and loved to share his vast array of jokes with all. He loved to host, grill, and entertain.

George is survived by his 4 daughters; Diana Lynn Turner (Kevin), Sheila Ann Smith (Jerry), Jennifer Joy Jefcoat (Jake), and Leah Stovall; 1 son, William Russell Stovall; 10 grandchildren, Kyle Turner (Megan), Katie Tidwell (Kaleb), Rendan Russell, Rachel Smith, Mason Smith, Hanna Joy Jefcoat, Jude Jefcoat, Sean Bailey, Madeline Smith, and William Russell Stovall, Jr.; 10 great grandchildren; his best friend, Chuck Stratton (Lisa); and mother of his 3 daughters, Patricia Holmes-Russell.

George was a devoted husband, caring brother, loyal friend, and loving Dad. He will forever be missed and we look forward to being reunited with him in heaven.

  1. Dear Russell family, I’m sorry for your loss and you have my deepest condolences. The loss of a loved one brings great pain and sorrow but you can gain comfort from Gods word the Bible. Acts 24:15 says “There is going to be a resurrection” so you can see your dear loved one again. A promise from our loving Heavenly Father. I hope this was a source of encouragement for the family.
