Mrs. Bettye Johnson Jackson, 81, a lifelong resident of Oxford, MS died on Thursday, June 2, 2022, at the Regional Medical Center in Memphis, TN. The funeral service will be held Monday, June 6, 2022, at 11:00 A.M. at New Prospect Baptist Church in Oxford, MS with Rev. Buster Wilson and Rev. David Ard officiating. Burial will follow in Kingdom Cemetery in Oxford, MS. The visitation will be held prior to the service at the church beginning at 9:00 AM.
Bettye was born in Yocona, MS on December 19, 1940 to C. D. and Myrtle Johnson. A graduate of Yocona High School Class of 1959, she served on the annual staff, 4-H Club, basketball team and was secretary of the senior class. Bettye married the love of her life, Robert S. Jackson and raised three children. She was a member of New Prospect Baptist Church for 67 years where she served as instrumentalist for 43 years, taught many classes, and served on various committees. She was a former member of Yocona Home Makers Club and currently served on the Kingdom Cemetery Committee. Her greatest hobby was being a member of the Skipwith Historical & Genological Society. She also loved crocheting, quilting, crossword puzzles, social media, her flowers, and watching her birds. She worked for the University of Mississippi Business Office and retired from 25 years of service as the Secretary for the Ole Miss Athletics Department. Along with her parents, she was preceded in death by her three angel babies.
Mrs. Jackson is survived by her husband of 62 years, Robert S. Jackson; daughters, Judy Stetz and her husband, Alan, and Charlotte Avent and her husband, Ryan; son, Doug Jackson and his wife, Mary all of Oxford, MS; four grandchildren, Meagan Jennings and her husband, John Cole, of Batesville, MS; Josh Baker, Mason Phillips and his wife, Jordan, and Luke Phillips of Oxford, MS; two great grandbabies, her pride and joy, Ava Jane Jennings and Riley Kate Phillips; sister, Bobbi Clark of Oxford, MS; and a host of nieces and nephews.
She has been a blessing to her family and will be missed every day.
