Kathleen “Kakie” Williams of Weatherford passed away Wednesday, June 1, 2022. She was born to Hope and Ruth Key on December 22, 1928 in Paris, TN. The family moved to nearby Murray, KY where she graduated from Murray State University with a degree in biology. She then went on to earn an M.S. in Biology with a specialization in ornithology at Mississippi State University in 1952. Marriage to H.S. “Buddy” Johnson, Jr. began her life long residency in Texas.
Kakie pursued her love of the biological sciences by teaching college classes in Louisiana, at Texas Tech University and Lubbock Christian College. Before she retired, she served as a member of the Alzheimer’s research team in the TTU Neurology labs. She led Girl Scout Troop 259 and her contributions to the Caprock Girl Scout Council were recognized with a lifetime achievement award.
She was a good and faithful servant in the Presbyterian church USA, serving in congregational leadership roles at Grace Presbyterian Church Lubbock and as an active member of Grace First Presbyterian Church Weatherford. Her love of dancing met an equal partner in Charlie S. Williams and they spent happy years together dancing and traveling the world.
Kakie is predeceased by her sister, Iris Key, H.S. Johnson, Jr. and Charlie S. Williams. She is survived by sisters-in-law Jane Johnson of Canadian, Anne (John) McWhorter of Starkville, MS; children Lynn (Mark) Denton of Austin, Lee (Nancy) Johnson of Aledo and Liz Clark of Weatherford; grandchildren Matthew (Kelsey) Denton, Katie Denton and great grandsons Eli and Charlie Denton and numerous loving nieces and nephews.
She will be laid to rest on June 7 in Oddfellows Cemetery, Starkville, MS.
A celebration of life will be held on Sunday, June 12 at 3 p.m. at Grace First Presbyterian Church USA Weatherford. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the Alzheimer’s Association or Weatherford/Parker County Animal Shelter.
