-Martha Kirksey Senter was a beloved Tupelo citizen, community activist and the most colorful, adoring and splendid kindergarten and first grade teacher anyone could have. Martha was literally a fixture for over 40 years at Church Street School. Her uncanny knack for getting the little ones interested in school and learning is legendary. She was a communicant of All Saints Episcopal Church in Tupelo and a wonderful wife, mother and grandmother to her late husband, Pat, her children, Nancy and Patrick and her two granddaughters, John Grayson and Addie Grace.
Martha was born in Tupelo on December 9, 1942 to John Houston Kirksey and Lavelle Chittom Kirksey of the Mantachie area. She graduated from Itawamba Agricultural High School, Itawamba Community College and received her BA in Elementary Education from Ole Miss. She later obtained her MA in Elementary Education from Mississippi State University. Martha, after apparently suffering a stroke a few days ago, departed this realm on Thursday, October 13, 2022 to meet her Creator at NMMC in Tupelo. Her amazing life will long be remembered and cherished by her family, her students and their families, by the All Saints family and folks everywhere who loved and revered this renaissance woman.
May the souls of the faithful departed through the mercy of God rest in peace and may perpetual light shine on them throughout eternity.
